Road hazard

On Wednesdays, give or take, I replace the flowers in the house: In the winter from the store, and in all the warm seasons, from the garden or the borders with some help from the roadside out front. This week, my nose is tingling with Lily of Valley everywhere I go. Is anything better than that after a winter of three foot snows?

Anyway, as you know, in this process I find all kinds of nifty uses for things from the road (a "weed" to you, maybe) but occasionally all my best efforts go badly awry.

Last week, I was having one of those weeks. Preoccupied, and a little bit of a head cold - nothing catastrophic, but enough to throw off my nose as I was getting the flowers together. It was only when my sense of smell began to recover that I detected just a note of skunk spray in the house...

There are some downsides to the roadside flower arrangement, I have to admit.

Very very funny. Perhaps it's good not to be able to "smell" sometimes. I often think how horrible it must be for our dogs to be ruled by their noses (their sense of smell is 60X greater than ours). Imagine the horrible things that must come their way!!

Stunning photo, I love Lily of the Valley, how lucky that you have it growing wild....thank you for the smile about the skunk (we all have those days). Glad you are feeling better.
