What they ate: First state dinner of the Obama White House



You might like a look into President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama's first state dinner honoring India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharon Kaur in the State Dining Room of the White House and a accompanying tent structure in Washington, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009.

The menu is culturally sensitive:). They were hosting India...no pork, no beef, etc.

Gorgeous setting. That dinner has been in the news continuously. Michell's gown is luscious!

The menu was mainly vegetarian in deference to the Indian guests of honor. The menu was light and lovely and the gesture thoughtful and gracious.
The table settings are gorgeous from the china service and the silver to the vibrant linens and lush flowers. I am experiencing serious tabletop envy.

My only issue is heavy on the potatoes. Of course, we don't know if the two dishes contained very different varieties of potatoes but, on the face of it, two potato dishes in rapid succession is one too many.

Other than that, lovely. Red lentil soup? Delish!

Gorgeous dress! And a brillant evening all around -- and the menu was fresh, light, pretty and fascinating! A stellar event in a magical setting!
