To quit or not: The Agony of Plagarism and Copies

One of my favorite reads Habitually Chic, posted recently on plagiarism ,as, previously, have several other blogs where the intellectual property is both genius and singular. There is not a great deal more I can say on the topic except to say that Blushing Hostess now has two blogs, called to my attention by my gorgeous readers, that have copied all manner of content and intellectual work from my sites.

I cannot tell you how this disturbed me. I almost stopped this thing. Just walked away. Then I realized that I am not a quitter by nature.

Please, I implore the blog community: Come up with your own ideas and work hard to produce your own intellectual property. It will be best for the community we all enjoy together.

Secondly, kind readers, accept no imposters. And I thank you for advising me, as heartsick as this had made me, better that I know.

So sorry you are having to deal with this.

On the subject of your content I only read you, Aesthete and sometimes Eddie Ross and Mrs. Blandings. So I would never have come across these plagarists anyway. What gets me is "why?"

This is distressing- it is always fascinating how writers tap into the same stories and are inspired by each other- Blatantly
Copying someone's material is cheating. They are always going to be there- it seems sometime that we never move beyond the grade school days- who knew the class of wooden(my day)desks was a microcosm of the adult world. A public scolding could be in order- I have seem this from our favorite bloggers done and it can sometimes be invaluable and cleansing- it is whatever is best for you. Your writing is completely authoritative and valued. The class needs you. la

Someone told me that there are "bots" that go and pull content from blogs. That's one thing. But if it's someone cutting and pasting your commentary, that's a whole new ballgame. I'd make a comment and link my original post. Shame!

What? One reason I love to blog is so I can talk about what I think and my opinions etc. It is my take on the world..why copy? sorry this happened. On a happy note I am glad you stopped by BH so I could find your blog! Big question? Is that your gate and fence on your blog banner and how do I get one? Love it!!

Sadly, this happens to me often, as well. It's very frustrating. One blog has gotten really blatant about it recently and immediately steals each post I publish. There are people who set up dozens of blogs. They copy our posts and surround them with Google ads to profit off them.

I've read that we should report them to Google. I haven't done that yet, but I'm tempted (if I can figure out how the reporting is done).

I figure they can take my content, but they can't take my readers, who know the real thing when they see it. It doesn't take long to figure out that those blogs are fakes. It's hard to imagine they get enough traffic to make it worth the trouble!

thanks for stopping by! Yes we are in quite close proximaty... (did I spell that correctly?!) I have my blog (and contents copyrighted) to help safeguard against plagiarism... if you look on the upper left hand corner it will bring you to the link so that you can do the same with yours.

is it a bot or a real blog? I have two bots on my blog - My Natural furniture and another one whose name escapes me. if it is a bot then forget it - everyone knows it is just bs. but a real thief, go for it and reveal them. And as for another blogger claiming theft - it is highly bogus. Just ask the accused. there is no ownership of finding a photo on a web site and claiming it is yours and only yours to repost. we're all thieves if that is the case. don't quit!!!!!

Amen to that!! I have run into my fair share of copycats and it's very violating, to say the least. Have a wonderful week.

You have a fun and smart way of sharing with others the ability to make others feel comfortable. I wrote a column on etiquette/manners for over 12 years and it amazed me how many times people would copy my content word for word...even the ones that were incorrectly spelled! Of course it was in the days of newspaper. Credit is always appreciated, however do remember the highest form of flattery, someone said...is imitation. Keep blogging because you are the BEST!

Please don't quit!

So many of us out there would miss you and your wit, and high standards, and graciousness, and great taste. You convinced me to place cloth napkins in front of my 8 and 6 year-olds for Pete's sake!
