Various nurseries send me tickler emails and the result is either that I am annoyed I am not in New York to plant or that it is close to useless to plant anything but jasmine and gardenia in this part of Florida. Doesn't matter this year, does it? As I mentioned, in October Josh is headed to the Pentagon and I will have time to ground the peonies there that I so adore and discussed with you here, and see them bloom before we move on once again.
And so it is that time, for ordering peonies. I can remember my Aunt seated at the kitchen table with the garden catalogs each fall, and her beer. Dichotomy, like I said.
Here are my notes on what I am considering this year, and here is where you can find them. At the moment, all orders over $50 get $25 off . Keep in mind, however, that you are getting on line, the bulbs ship in the fall, and because they are guaranteed; no sooner than you should expect to plant them for optimal results.

I got some at the farmers' market on sunday. they're running about two weeks behind the norm because of the cool weather we've been having (until today, when it finally hit 90).
Paeonia 'Taki' is very, very beautiful. Have you seen http://www.peonies.net? You will froth at the mouth and die. My faves? 'Abalone Pearl', 'Early Star', and 'Martha Bullock'. Oh, what the hell; I'll take all 150 varieties the company carries.
PTD - here in Florida, there was one shipment in late may, that was it. Such a bummer.
AAL - I tripped across that site once before. I am curious about which variety is the 115 dollar peony they mention. I will see if they will agree to be featured here to discuss.
When I bought mine it was on a whim...I think I spent the grocery money. Now that they're big and showy, I'm thrilled that I threw caution to the wind and plunked donwn the cash...those lovely blowsy ladies greet me when I come home after a long day away from the farm.
Pop on over and take a peek at my blog header, I think you'll like it.
AAL - update, I am profiling the peony people on 7/19, standby and thank you!
Shelly - spent the groceery money on peonies! A girl after my own heart!!
